Cool Connections

Cool Connections is a suite of programs for students in Years 5 and 6, that help them identify their own positive qualities.

The objective of each program is to increase resilience, working with participants to build their confidence, develop their social skills and to create a sense of connectedness with others at school and in the community.

Cool Connections programs have a significant art component that keeps learning fun and engaging for the young participants. Programs are evaluated at their conclusion, with teachers consistently reporting strong improvements in students’ self-esteem, confidence and classroom behaviour.

There are three Connections programs, each with a unique format and purpose.

Cool Connections in School: Eight sessions of 90 minutes duration. Weekly topics include personal identity, connection, safe places and people, problem solving and gratitude.

This program has been running in Central Coast schools since 2016.

Cool Connections Online: Six weekly sessions of one hour duration, hosted via Zoom. This program enables remote learning using a mix of hands-on creative projects and online educational tools.

This program was developed and first delievered while schools were closed due to COVID-19.

Connections 2×2 Resilience Workshops: Two sessions of 120 minutes duration each to reach larger groups of students. Three facilitators covering topics including identity, friendships, coping strategies and problem solving.

This workshop was created to help address the mental health impacts of COVID-19 on children.
